Obituary for Ann Regina Doll

Ann Regina Doll
Ann Regina Doll
September 8, 1937 – January 12, 2018

Ann Regina Doll, 80, left this world Jan. 12, 2018 surrounded by her children and husband after complications related to cancer.

Ann was born Sept. 8, 1937 in Solen, North Dakota to Peter and Monica (Fleck) Mauer. She was the youngest of 12 children. A handsome young sailor named Stephen Doll caught her attention at a dance and they married 60 years ago. The couple first moved to Oak Harbor in the 1960s with the Navy. They built a home and raised four children together on North Whidbey. Ann worked as a meat wrapper for many years at Ennen’s Grocery store. She was the best mom any child could have.

The long-time Oak Harbor resident loved her life and the people in it. Ann was light and love personified. She loved tootling around town in her bright yellow Volkswagen bug wearing a fedora and sunglasses. She loved sweet wines, yellow roses, sunny days, making snow angels and adventures. She loved dressing stylishly, playing in the water, hanging out the laundry and dancing with her husband Stephen -- any kind of dance. She hated vegetables and never made her children eat any.

In retirement, Ann and Stephen traveled extensively together. They took their RV across the U.S., Canada and Mexico. They remained deeply in love and devoted to each other until the end.

Ann is survived by her husband and their four children: Debra Zumwalt of Garland, Texas; Tammi Doll-Storey of Snohomish; Todd Doll and his wife Michelle of Greenbank; and Sheree Doll and her partner Debra Vaughn of Oak Harbor. She also leaves behind two sisters, Monica Maas of Hazen, North Dakota, and Maria Ereth of Carnation, as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the ICU staff at Island Hospital in Anacortes for their loving care during mom’s final days. A Celebration of Life for Ann will be held at a later date.
