Obituary for Alexander H. Gabor

Alexander (Al) H. Gabor, 92, of Oak Harbor passed away peacefully on August 13, 2022, in Coupeville, WA.

Born August 1, 1930 in Dudley, MA, he was the son of the late Frank and Hermina Gabor. Alexander graduated from Bartlett High School in Webster, MA in 1949. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1951 where he took part in the Korean War serving aboard the USS Valley Forge and the USS Boxer. In 1954, he was stationed at NAS Whidbey Island and met the love of his life, Daisy (Knotts). They were married in 1955.

Al (as he preferred to go by) was employed by Federal Civil Service in the Supply Department at NAS Whidbey working in Hanger 5 for many years, retiring in 1988. He enjoyed working on his property on North Whidbey; raising cows, pigs and chickens, gardening, cutting firewood and playing on his tractor over the years. He really enjoyed selling his produce at his roadside stand on Banta Road where he met a lot of really nice people.

Al was a longtime volunteer fire fighter for the Cornet Bay Fire Department. He was a member of the Beer Can Collectors of America and took great pride in his large collection. Al also enjoyed fishing, playing horseshoes, and helping his many friends and neighbors with projects.

Alexander is survived by his four children; Linda Miller of Newberg, OR, Larry Gabor of Olympia, Bill Gabor of Oak Harbor, and Jim Gabor of Burlington. He is also survived by his sister Irene Starzec of Webster, MA.

Also surviving are his eight grandchildren; Michaela Jaquith, Maria Miller, Donny Miller, Rachel Ellyson, Lindsey Gabor-Ringler, Colby Gabor, Brandon Gabor, and Ashley Gabor, as well as seven great-grandchildren; Kalista Jaquith, Malachi Jaquith, Kaelyn Jaquith, Cole Miller, Rhett Ellyson, Trent Ellyson, Austynn Ringler, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Daisy Gabor, his father Frank Gabor, his mother Hermina Gabor, his brothers; Frank Jr., Stephen, Carl, Louis, and Ernest, and his sisters; Mary and Rose.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at Maple Leaf Cemetery in Oak Harbor.
