Obituary for Alma B Williams

Alma B Williams age 85 of Oak Harbor passed on Sunday, March 14, 2021 at home surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Alma, Arkansas on September 6, 1935 to Genevieve (Vaughan) and Grey Hamer, Alma was later joined by siblings Skip and Patricia. In 1943 the family traveled by Greyhound bus to Washington State to join her dad who had found employment. She married Robert Boyer in 1950 and graduated Chimacum High School in 1953.
They landed in Oak Harbor in 1963 and she remained there until her death. Robert was killed in an accident in 1964, leaving Alma a widow with 4 young children, Bob, Jill, Skip and Holly.
She met Lloyd Williams and they were married. He brought with him 2 children, Jeff and Julie, so the brood was now 6. Jay joined the growing household in 1968.
Transitioning from helping Lloyd with the bookkeeping for his building business she moved on to a career at NAS Whidbey starting at Civilian Personnel in 1971. There she held numerous positions, retiring after 24 years with the Meritorious Civil Service Award. Many lifelong friendships were made along the way.

Alma was a member of the Whidbey Cruzers, showing a 1949 Ford, 1948 Plymouth Coupe and her favorite, her 1957 Ford Fairlane. She took with her many great Cruzer memories.
Despite designing and building 2 homes together and the countless trials of raising their “hooligans” into responsible adults, Alma and Lloyd celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2015.
Alma was hardworking, eager to tackle any project. She was loyal and loving to her family and friends, and was always looking forward to the next adventure, however big or small. Our lives are better because of her, and being the stubborn independent person she was, she left on her terms. She departed a “Winner”.

Alma is survived by her children and their spouses: Bob (Cindy) Boyer, Jill Boyer, Skip (Lisa) Boyer, Holly Boyer, and Jay (Beth) Williams; stepchildren Jeff (Tina) Williams, Julie Parker; and sister Patricia Gould. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was proceeded in death by her parents, brother Skip, and husbands Robert and Lloyd.

A memorial service for Alma will take place at Wallin-Stucky Funeral Home at 1:00 pm on Saturday July 31, 2021 with a graveside service and reception to follow—per Covid-19 Washington state guidelines.
