Obituary for David W. Boyes

Having endured several years of suffering due to cancer and other natural causes, the Lord, Jesus Christ, called our beloved brother, uncle, and friend, David Boyes to his new home with our Savior. Lord. David departed this world in the early morning hours of September 18, 2023. We are saddened at his passage, but happy to know he is in peace and comfort, no longer in pain and anguish. Instead, he begins his eternal reward prepared ahead of time by the Lord.

David Wayne Boyes was born November 13, 1951, in Oakland, CA. to Shirley I. (Van Ness) Boyes, and Allen D. Boyes, of San Leandro, CA. He continually lived with his parents and three other brothers until he graduated from high school and joined the United States Navy in September of 1969. After graduating from Boot Camp, he was transferred to Naval Air Technical Training Command (NATTC) in Millington, TN., where he received training to become an Aviation Fire-Control Technician (AQ).

After additional training on specific aircraft electronics equipment, David was assigned to work at an A-6E Aircraft Training Squadron (VA-128) at Naval Air Station (NAS), Whidbey Island, Oak Harbor, WA., from August 1970 to September 1973. He was then sent back to NATTC, Millington, TN., to Advanced Electronics School from October 1973 to May 1974. In August 1974 he served a sea duty tour with A-6E Aircraft Squadron VA-52, stationed at NAS Whidbey. In October of 1977 he was transferred to shore duty at NAS Whidbey’s Aircraft Intermediate Maintenance Department (AIMD) Avionics Division, continuing to work as a technician and shift supervisor. After an additional tour of duty with VA-52, he completed a variety of assignments with VA-122 of NAS Fallon, NV, Naval Strike Warfare Center, and USS Independence CV-62, where David retired from the Navy in September of 1969.

Following retirement from the Navy, David enjoyed a humble and simple life living off of his small Navy pension supplement by a variety of jobs to help him pay his bills and rent. His last job was a janitorial position at his church (Family Bible Church of Oak Harbor), of which David was a long-standing member. As the years rolled by, David was able to collect a Social Security pension which helped pay his expenses and qualified him for residency at Low-Income Housing at Oak Manor, Oak Harbor.

He loved reading Scripture and practicing his faith as our Family Prayer Warrior. He was never shy when he’d ask us if it was okay for him to pray for us. David would spend no small amount of time, taking our requests before the Lord. Who knows how horrible our lives might have been had David never presented our needs before God. There is little doubt that David’s calling, mission and ministry was intercessory prayer.

David is preceded in death by his brother John E. Boyes, mother and father, Shirley and Allen Boyes, respectively. He survived by his brother James A. and his wife, Maureen (Terry) Boyes, niece Shawna, and husband, Jacob Boyes, grand-niece Delta, and grand-nephew Echo Boyes, niece Christina (Boyes) Hernandez, nephew-in-law Miguel Hernandez, grand-niece Karina Hernandez, and grand-nephew, Carlos Hernandez, brother Larry W. Boyes, and his wife Linnie (Leonard) Boyes.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, October 2, 2023, at Wallin-Stucky Funeral Home, Oak Harbor, WA. His cremation is also by Wallin-Stucky Funeral Home. Memorials may be made in his name to the Family Bible Church of Oak Harbor WA.
