Obituary for Douglas Earl Cydell

Douglas Earl Cydell, 93, passed away in his home on Whidbey Island on July 13th, 2023. He was a 1948 graduate of Langley High School in Langley, Washington. He then went on to earn an Associates Degree in Marketing from Alexander Hamilton School.

Mr. Cydell served in the United States Air Force as a Communication Specialist until 1955. Doug retired from Pacific Telephone after 35 years of service in 1983. During his career, he lived in various interesting cities including Reno and San Diego before returning to his beloved home of Whidbey Island.

Upon his return to Clinton, Doug went to work for his best friend from high school, Gordon Simmons at Simmons Garage in Clinton.

Doug served the community in many ways throughout his life including: Scouting, Pop Warner Football and Guiding Hands.

He was married to Alice Hagstrom for 25 years and is survived by their three children: Kathrine Liedike, Donald Cydell and Frank Cydell.

Douglas will be greatly missed by his wife of 30 years, Suzanne Cydell. Their life included a home in Boise, ID, and summers on Whidbey until 2022 when they permanently re-located back to Whidbey Island. He loved watching the boats cruise by from his home in Greenbank.

Mr. Cydell is also survived by his 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 21, 2023, at 2:30pm at St. Peters Church in Clinton, WA.
