Obituary for Juan Eclarinal "Jun / Johnny" Ecijan

On Friday, March 11, 2022, Juan Eclarinal Ecijan, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away at the age of 81. He was surrounded in love by his wife and children.

Juan, or Johnny/Jun, as his friends fondly call him, was born on December 21, 1940, to Teodoro and Francisca (Eclarinal) Ecijan in Candelaria, Zambales, Philippines (Ph). He graduated as Automotive Mechanic from Ramon Magsaysay School of Arts and Trade (RMSAT) in Iba, Zambales. Ph.  He went on to work at the Navy Exchange as a warehouseman at United States Naval Base in Subic Bay Philippines for 27 years until the military base pull out in 1992.

On April 12, 1962, Juan married his long time crush, Arcelina Eben. They raised four children, Jeneth, Arlene, Marie and Junar in Olongapo City. Juan and Arcelina joined her daughter Marie and husband Tony, who was in the Navy and were stationed in Sasebo, Japan, in 1993. They went back to the Philippines in 1995. Then in June 2004, Juan and Arcelina moved to Oak Harbor, Washington. He worked as a warehouseman and crane operator at the Navy Exchange in Oak Harbor.

Juan was a kind, gentle, loyal and caring person. He loved company and hanging out with friends of different ages- young and old alike. He loved to dance especially cha cha. He was always quick to giving candies to his grandkids and that made them endeared to him. His favorite activities to pass the time are playing “Tong-its” (a card game- Filipino version of Gin rummy), Bingo and an occasional visit or hanging out in the casino with friends. He was also a subtle prankster especially to his wife Arcelina to make her laugh. He loved Arcelina so much that he always cook and wait for her late at nights (when Arcelina return from a late night shift) to have dinner together. No wonder they stayed together and married for almost 60 years.

Juan is preceded by his late father Teodoro and his mother Francisca. He is survived by his wife, Arcelina, his sister Perceveranda, his daughter Jeneth & son in law Arthur with their four children (Kelvin, Jana, Patrick and Jolo), his daughter Arlene & son in law Arsenio and three children (Arwin, Ariane and Aron), daughter Marie & son in law Tony with their three children and their spouses (Carl & wife Summer; Erin & husband Frank, and Roy), his son Junar & wife Lorey with their four children (Lois Kathryn, Lysa Krystin, Julianne, and Justine), and his two granddaughters Izabella and Aleph. He also leaves behind many cousins, nephews and nieces and beloved friends.
