Obituary for June Beatrice Allen
June Allen, a longtime resident of Whidbey Island passed away May 23, 2023 at the age of 97.
She was born in Dayton, Ohio in 1925 to Everett and Esther Bollinger. The family moved to Atlanta when she was 6. The family traveled often to Florida in Everett’s van on his salesman route for Monarch Label Company. They spent many days on the beach while Everett was selling to businesses. She was a window dresser and artist for Rich’s Department Store in Atlanta. In 1946 she married LTJG. Donald Bott (United States Navy). After leaving the Navy they moved to Don’s home state of Idaho. They subsequently moved to Southern California to begin Don’s career in the aerospace industry.
Following Don’s death in 1979 she moved to Whidbey Island where she eventually met and married William Allen in 1982. They spent 14 years of travel and home building together.
She had a passion for art and fashion where she honed her fine tailoring skills. As an accomplished water color artist, she traveled through Europe on art tours. While working at multiple fabric outlets, she designed most of her clothes. She was a lifelong supporter of Planned Parenthood.
She also had an adventurous spirit:
• Small plane flights to Mexico and across the United States
• Desert Camping
• Dusty Jeep trips in Southern Idaho
• Climbing Mt Whitney in California
• California to Whidbey Island on a motorcycle
• Boat trips in the San Juans and Canada
• Snorkeling in Molokini from a dive boat
• Trips to the wilds of Alaska
She is survived by her children and their spouses; Kerry Bott (Barbara), Stephen Bott (Wendy), and Ronald Bott (Liza); step children of June from William Allen and their spouses; Chuck Allen (Sandi) and Robert Allen.
She is also survived also by six Bott grandchildren, six Bott great-grandchildren, five Allen step grandchildren, eleven Allen step great-grandchildren and seven Allen step great-great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by Donald Bott (1979), William Allen (1997), Richard Bollinger (brother), Mary Lou Bollinger-Brown (sister), Kelli Allen (step daughter in-law)
