Obituary for Ken Grigsby

Kenneth Dale Grigsby
September 12, 1944 – June 23, 2023

In the early morning of June 23rd, 2023, Kenneth (Ken) Dale Grigsby passed away after a short battle with kidney cancer at the University of Washington Northwest Hospital in Seattle. Ken was 78 years old.

Ken was born in Schuyler, Nebraska to Clayton (Whid) and Helen (Weber) Grigsby in September 1944. After being raised in Longview, Washington, Ken spent most of his adult life in Oak Harbor, Washington. Upon receiving his Bachelor’s Degree in Education in 1966 Ken taught history at Oak Harbor Junior High, retiring in 2000. In addition to being a teacher, Ken hosted a large number of Foreign Exchange students over the years.

As a bachelor Ken did many things to keep himself busy after retirement. He poured his energy into travel. His travel was primarily to Europe visiting Russia, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Sweden and Slovakia. He was also very involved with the Whidbey Playhouse where he both acted and produced several shows. Ken was also very involved with his church Oak Harbor Lutheran.

Ken was proceeded in death by his father Clayton (Whid), his mother Helen, and his nephew Garrett. Ken is survived by his brothers Gene (Kathy) and John (Cida) and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be at Oak Harbor Lutheran Church from 1:00pm to 1:45pm July 6th with a public memorial service at 2:00pm.
