Obituary for Leo D Doyle

Leo D Doyle was born on February 11, 1930 in Lackawanna, NY and passed away to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on August 21, 2020.

Known as “The Lee” to his in-laws “LD” to his wife and Leo when she had had enough. Dad to his four sons, grandpa, and great-grandpa and as friend to everyone he met. Leo enjoyed life, everything it brought him and everywhere he went. Leo had many sayings, if he liked you, he would say “You’re a K.E.W. Good Guy!”

At the age of 17, Leo enlisted in the United States Navy; he would make a 30-year career out of it. While in the Navy he made many lifelong friends, seen numerous ports of call and was stationed in some of the nicest places a person could ask for. It was at one of those duty stations where he met the love of his life, Marcella Pelinski. They were married on September 21, 1957 and began a life together that would span 63 wonderful years. During his time in the Navy, he was stationed with his wife and called home to Foley, AL; Milton, FL; Norfolk, VA; Pensacola, FL; Kodiak, AK; Oak Harbor, WA; Ewa Beach, HI and then retiring back in Oak Harbor, WA as a Senior Chief in 1977. He never spoke much of his exploits in the service perhaps because he felt many did more, but he often said he would enlist all over again.

Leo enjoyed many things; sports, the NY Yankees, golfing, hunting, fishing, his garden, backyard time with his sons and the neighbor kids, backyard BBQ’s, his beer, his food and his voracious sweet tooth. Sometimes so much so that he would fill his pockets with cookies, candies, and even the occasional half a sandwich. He loved his wife, sons and their families, friends too numerous to mention, the Navy and his church.

Leo was a 50+ year honorary member of the Knights of Columbus, served as Grand Knight and a member of the 4th Degree. He spent endless hours serving his council, his parishes and community. Leo could often be heard singing in the choir and ushering at mass ensuring everyone had a place to sit and was quick with a handshake and a smile.

Leo was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Catherine. He is survived by his wife, Marcella, sons Michael (Darcy), Brian (Elizabeth), Kevin and Daniel. Leo had seven grandchildren that he adored; Alan (Thandra), David, Matt (Becky), Corey (Jessica), Chris (Jessica), Jasmine (Marcus) and Ben. Leo was also blessed with six great grandchildren; Tristan, Zachary, Deklan, Raelyn, Aria and McCoy.

Special thanks to his grandson Chris and his girlfriend Jessica for being the live in caregivers for the past 3 years. We can’t thank you enough for the love and care you provided not only to Leo but the entire family.

Leo, May the road rise up to meet you, May the wind be always at your back, May the sun shine warm upon your face; the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Leo will be interred at the Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Washington.
