Obituary for Norma Case Edens

Longtime Oak Harbor resident Norma Case Edens passed away peacefully on February 11, 2024 in Anacortes, Washington.

Born Norma Jean Case on June 30, 1939, Norma was raised on the Case Family Farm just north of Oak Harbor where she lived and grew up with her 3 sisters until she married William “Ted” Edens in 1957.

During her married life she raised a family in Yakima, Washington. Then she lived in Kona-Kailua, Hawaii for many years and at Sleepy Hollow on Chinook Pass near Mt. Rainier before returning to the Case Farm in the late 1990’s. Back in Oak Harbor she married her second husband Herbert Lum. She spent most of the last twenty years with her long-time companion Joseph Coomer of Decatur Island, Washington. Joe and Norma split their time between the Case Farm, Decatur Island and travelled extensively through the United States and abroad.

She graduated from Oak Harbor High School with the class of 1957 and kept in touch with many fellow students throughout her life. She enjoyed many high school reunions as well and Whidbey Island was her home even while away.

Norma kept abreast of family news and always had something to say and share when visiting. She had a way of making you feel good when you left. She enjoyed socializing and life while quietly giving to others when she saw a need.

Norma is survived by her sister Shelia Case-Smith, children Brenda Faris, Rhonda Edens and Roger Edens as well as her step-daughters Carolyn Miller and Linda Bird. Norma touched the lives of many foster children as well as nieces, nephews, four grandchildren and even a great grandchild. Norma was proceeded in death by parents Henry and Ena Case, Henry’s second wife Christine Case, sisters Beverly Case Black, Gail Case Jaeger husbands William T Edens and Herbert Lum and step daughter Janet Hoffman.

Services will be held at the Oak Harbor First United Methodist Church, Saturday, March 16, 2024 from 1pm to 3:30 pm.
