Orville R Vanderpool passed away 10/18/22
Orville “Van” as most knew him was born April 1936 in Libby Montana and raised in Cataldo Idaho. A long-time resident of the Oak Harbor area, after serving almost 30 years in the US Navy he retired Feb 1987 as Petty Officer 1st class to the area. First serving at NAS Whidbey in the early 60’s Van and family returned for retirement and enjoyed a 2nd career in Civil service for the base’s Security dept. Many remember him as the “Candy man” kindly welcoming you on base with a piece of candy, or some received the candy with a Speeding ticket while he was on patrol.
Orville was married to Barbara for 44 years before her passing in 2004. His oldest Daughter Renee passed as well in 2021. Survived by his Son Raymond Vanderpool, his wife Reggie, Daughter Robin Macdonald and her husband Bill. Grandchildren Christopher Fleming, Jeremy Vanderpool, Aaron Macdonald, Jamie Del Giudice, Raymond Macdonald, Joseph Vanderpool, Derek Vanderpool and Jordan Vanderpool. 16 Great Grandkids and 2 Great-Great Grandkids will all miss him dearly as will his Longtime Navy Buddy Ken Boardman.
A private family service will be held at Wallin-Stucky Funeral home Oct 28th, followed by a time for Family and friends at his home on North Whidbey.
