Obituary for Pat Larry McCourt

Pat was born on August 7, 1945 in Price, Utah to Charlotte and Patrick Lawrence McCourt. He returned home to his Heavenly Father on February 14, 2020.

Pat is survived by his beautiful, loving wife, Nellie McCourt, and their seven children: Patrick (Shawn) McCourt and Jessi, Joshua McCourt and Brianna, Tasha Minor and Doug, Sjoera McCourt and Trevor, John McCourt, Tanja Bernson and Whitney, Lukas McCourt and Carly; along with 25 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Pat was a Vietnam Veteran for the Coast Guard and was very patriotic. Before serving his country in Vietnam, Pat served a full-time mission for The Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Uruguay.

Pat was a resident of Las Vegas, NV for the past two years and he lived on Whidbey Island for close to 15 years prior to that. He served as Bishop there for some time and met people that would become lifelong friends.

Pat died from health complications with heart issues and Lewy Body Parkinson’s disease. He passed away surrounded by friends and family.

Pat was an amazing man. He influenced many people’s lives and helped them on the path to faith in Jesus Christ. People were attracted to his leadership, character and charisma and he loved everyone. He loved to serve everyone he could and found joy in lifting up those who were weary and down trodden. It was always hard to get him to leave a gathering once he started telling his stories and experiences, and he had a lot. He loved to talk, laugh, sing and joke.

In the end, he was the strongest, happiest and at his best. Pat was a true warrior that died the most honorable death. Somehow, purified by his disease, becoming the purest soul, without any malice towards anyone. So pure in the end that he could stand in the presence of God himself. And we truly believe that God himself came to take him home because his passing was such a spiritual experience.

Pat had a very strong testimony and belief in Jesus Christ. Pat loved his wife, Nellie, and children very much.

Dad, we love you very much and you taught us how to live and love and in return you have our hearts forever.
Until we meet again.
