Obituary for Patrick Hinton

Patrick Lee Hinton born in May 1962 in Lake Charles, Louisiana to James and Cleary Hinton. Patrick died on September 29, 2022 after a fight with cancer. He is survived by his daughter Rachel Pearl Hinton (from his first wife Teresa) and his devoted wife Lynda Joy. His immediate family includes Mike of Lake Charles, LA; John and his wife Shirley in Huntsville, AL; Richard and his wife Jan of Lake Charles, LA; Scott and his wife Jodi of Baton Rouge, LA; Jeannine Fontenot Hinton and her wife Marta of New Orleans, LA; Elizabeth Hinton of Lafayette, LA; and many extended family members including lifelong friend Jody Davidson.

Patrick graduated from Lake Charles High School in 1980 and McNeese University in 1986. He attended Pepperdine School of Law, where he obtained his juris doctorate in 1989. He began his law practice in Orange County, California and was ultimately licensed to practice in California, Florida, Nevada, Colorado and Washington. He took his law practice from Orange County to Truckee, California, then to Seattle, Washington and finally to Oak Harbor, Washington.

Growing up in Lake Charles, Patrick loved outdoor sports; hunting, fishing, and water skiing. On the West Coast, he adopted hiking, mountain biking, snow skiing, beach activities and some light mountaineering. He also appreciated spotting eagles and other wildlife, on the beaches, islands, forests, mountains and deserts of Washington.

Patrick found a welcoming home in Oak Harbor on Whidbey Island, WA, where he gained the friendship of his many neighbors and colleagues. He found a true gem in Oak Harbor and cherished it. Lynda would like to thank the many families and friends who loved Patrick and cared for him over the time of his illness.

A memorial service will be held at a later time. Contributions in his memory can be made to Whidbey Animals’ Improvement Foundation, P.O. Box 1108
