Phyllis Emily (Erb) Rollag
July 5, 1929 – July 17, 2022
Our beloved mother, grandmother, wife, and friend Phyllis Emily (Erb) Rollag passed away into the Lords arms on July 17, 2022.
She was born on July 5, 1928, in East Missoula, MT to Donald and Carolina Erb. Shortly after her family moved to Stevensville, MT and then finally to Portland, OR. It was here that Phyllis met her husband Norman Rollag and the two of them were married on February 2, 1948. After eight years of marriage the family decided to move with their two daughters Candace and Kristie to Oak Harbor, WA.
There she taught her daughters to sew, work a garden, and always enjoyed making strawberry and raspberry jam. She enjoyed healthy food such as dried fruit, made her own granola and had a son-in-law who referred to her as nuts and acorns. There was always plenty of produce from the garden too.
Phyllis worked for the Oak Harbor School District for 30 years, retiring in 1993. She loved her job and the kids at Crescent Harbor Elementary. Phyllis and Norman lived together on a little farm outside of Oak Harbor for 45 years until his passing.
As a member of Oak Harbor Lutheran church since 1956, she raised her daughters in the church through Sunday school and confirmation. She continued to be a member until her passing.
Phyllis is survived by her sisters Lois Hanby, Leona Mershon, Donna Boekeloo and Donald Erb (deceased), her daughter, Candace Rollag (David Amarelo), Kristie Rollag-Royce (deceased) (John) grandchildren Kate Amarelo (Tim Johnston), Jonathan Amarelo (Mary), Nicholas Royce, Christopher Royce (Madeline) and Patrick Royce (Hayley). Great grandchildren Jessica, Zoey and Evangelina Amarelo. Other survivors include Denese Rollag Kjargaard (niece) and several other nieces and nephews.
