Obituary for Robert Hagan
Robert H. Hagan, of Coupeville, Washington peacefully passed away on January 26, 2022, surrounded by his wife, son and daughters, after an enduring journey from acute myeloid leukemia for several years.
Bob was born July 26, 1939, in Dayton, Ohio to Robert and Kathaleen Hagan. He had a blessed life with his cherished family. After Bob graduated from Chaminade High School, he attended the University of Dayton. Shortly after, Bob enlisted in the Air Force, servicing heavy-ground radar while stationed at Bethel, Alaska. He served for four years and received a Good Conduct medal. Bob was called by his love of the West and started his career in Condon, Oregon after being honorably discharged. He was hired by Westinghouse as a field service radar engineer where he taught airmen about heavy-ground radar. While in Condon, he met his beloved wife, Shirlee.
Bob and Shirlee married on June 19, 1965, in LaGrande, Oregon and then moved to Crescent City, California. Bob transferred to Westinghouse X-ray in Sacramento, California. In Sacramento, Bob and Shirlee had two daughters, Tiffany and Whitney. Moves then followed to Colorado, and Northern and Southern California with Bob working as a service manager. He worked loyally for the same company his entire career with Westinghouse bought by CGR and then General Electric. While in San Ramon, California, son Matthew was born. Bob missed working with his hospital and clinical customers, so he returned to working in the field specializing in mammography systems. He was highly requested for the challenging service calls. His customers knew that Bob would get their medical equipment back online quickly and correctly.
Bob was well-known for his purposeful work ethic which helped him instill the 4 D’s in his children and their own families to this day: Desire, Determination, Dedication, and Discipline. Bob and Shirlee retired to Whidbey Island, Washington in 2001 to savor the Penn Cove and Mt. Baker views. They enjoyed their retirement immensely and visited their family across the country. He volunteered as a docent at the Admiralty Head Lighthouse at Fort Casey and wrote a lengthy historical record of the lighthouse.
Bob is predeceased by his parents, Robert and Kathaleen Hagan and his sister, Mary K.; and survived by siblings Pegge, Susie and brother Jim. Bob is survived by his wife, Shirlee, daughters Tiffany (David), Whitney (Doug), and Matthew (Stephanie) and grandchildren, Marin, Paige, Rylie, Colby, Keira, Abbey, Lacey and Hunter.
A funeral mass celebrating Bob’s life is being held at 10AM on February 4th, 2022 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Coupeville, Washington. A private graveside service will be held in Bozeman Montana at a later date.
