The lighting of a Memorial Candle not only provides a gesture of sympathy and support to the immediate family during their time of need but also provides the gift of extending the Book of Memories for future generations.
When it's all said and done and we look back, we begin to realize that it was always the people that we were surrounded by who shaped our experiences and molded our memories. Bear genuinely loved people and instinctively understood that, whatever life might throw at us and wherever life might lead, in the end, it was always about the people.
"The BEAR" when I was introduce to him on a Tech assist to Atsugi Japan, just by his stance you could see that he was a leader of Men, and that the respect follow him. It was with great pleasure that I was able to meet his family in at Atsugi when they invited me our for an evening dinner, His house was always open to his men. it was a bit of time after he had retired I was to meet him on the Sea Plane Base gas Station, He remembered me even though there were only two meetings while on Tech assist, I was able to introduce my wife Mary to "the Bear" May the Lord help his family at this time of lost. As it has been said God speed shipmate, your fight is over, and its time to rest. May the winds keep your sails full and on a steady course, my friend. Sam and Mary Bullard.
Bear my friend you will be missed, never forgotten.
Dont think of him as gone away
his journeys' just begun,
life holds so many facets
this earth is only one.
Just thinking of him as resting
from the sorrows and tears
in a place of warmth and comfort
where there are no days and years.
Think how he must be wishing
that we could know today
how nothing but our sadness can really pass away. And think of him as living in the hearts of those he touched... for nothing loved is ever lost and he was loved so much.
Bear, my friend, you will be missed...thank you for all you did for the Navy, in building the Silver Foxes and most our friendship. You will be in our prayers.
Bear was the lifeblood of the Eagles Maintenance Dept in VA-115. I am absolutely certain our successes were a direct result of his superb professionalism, leadership, and dedication. I am certain he raised his boys with the same values and rules to live by that he mentored countless numbers of Navy Sailors with. One of my most cherished days with Bear is when he made me an honorary "Mustang". He gave us the "Panache". EFR. Kris and I send our sincerest thoughts and prayer to Ivy and the boys.
To: Bear, My best friend and Shipmate
God saw you were getting tired and a cure was not to be,
So he put his arm around you and whispered come with me.
With tearful eyes we watched you suffer and saw you fade away
And although we couldn’t bare to lose you, we could not bid you to stay.
A golden heart stopped beating, heard working hands laid to rest,
God broke our hearts to prove to us he only takes the best.
So rest in piece my Brother and don’t worry about your family
God ,your friends and shipmates will look after them.
Love!!! you Man, Dusty and Sonoko
The best tour I ever had was serving with Bear in VA-115 in Japan. He was a great Sailor, a great American and a great Warrior! I will miss him but I will always HONOR his service. Mallard
