Salsa Memories

Shala was a badass salsa dancer. She moved with a grace and elegance rarely seen, with joy emanating from her. All the men loved dancing with the skinny white girl who surprised them with her slinky, smooth moves and salsa tricks. Her dance card was full all night. She carried herself with confidence and mystery as she walked into Century Ballroom and across the floor, her favorite dance partners waiting. She’d leave at the very end with a secret smile.

Shala and I knew each other as acquaintances from college and were never more. But. Whenever we were both in town, I saw her regularly. I loved watching her dance salsa.

My condolences to Shala’s family and friends. She had an incredible spirit and I know how well-loved she was. She will be deeply missed.
