Obituary for Diana Jean Burlington

Diana Jean Burlington, age 69, died at Careage of Whidbey, Coupeville on January 17, 2016. She was born on February 5, 1946 in St. Joseph, Missouri to William and Bertha Allen. She was raised in St. Joseph, where she graduated from high school. She was one of four children, with two older brothers, one sister and one younger brother.

Diana was married to Will Schneider and from that marriage, Lassen was born. Diana worked for Wire Rope Company as a key punch operator for several years. Diana and her family moved to California, settling in Oceanside, where daughters Elizabeth and Cassandra were born. Eventually Diana and Bill were divorced and Diana became a single mom.

Diana was attending a Family Home Evening Singles Group through her church and met Todd Burlington. Following a whirlwind courtship, Diana and Todd were married on November 18, 1983 in Vista, CA. Two families, Diana’s three children and Todd’s three became one large, blended family. Daughter Megan was added and the family grew a little larger.

The Burlington family decided it was time to leave California, as jobs were disappearing, so they headed North. They arrived in Oak Harbor and stayed with friends. Todd soon found work and Diana moved up with the rest of the family. She soon began work for John. L. Scott Realty, as an office manager.

Diana moved on to join Island Transit as a bus driver, a job she thoroughly loved. She spent the next 16 years as a driver for the transit. In February of 2013, she was forced to retire due to ill health.

Diana loved driving transit bus. She also enjoyed crocheting, going to the movies with Todd and she especially loved chocolate! She also has a passion for her church. She was a member of the Penn Cove Ward of the Church of Latter-Day Saints, Oak Harbor.

Diana is survived by her husband Todd, by her seven children: Lassen Phoenix, Elizabeth Antonia, Cassandra Burlington, Megan Burlington, Adan Burlington, Erin Cruz and Jodie Jackson. She is also survived by her sister Janet Bradley and her brother Richard Allen.

Funeral services for Diana will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at 2:00pm at the chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Oak Harbor. Graveside services will follow at Sunnyside Cemetery, Coupeville. Arrangements are entrusted to Wallin Funeral Home, Oak Harbor, WA.
