Obituary for Daisy Lee Gabor

Daisy Lee (Knotts) Gabor, 82, of Oak Harbor passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on August 18, 2017 in Anacortes.

Born July 10, 1935 in Des Moines, Iowa, she was the daughter of the late Eugene and Roberta Knotts.

Daisy moved to Washington with her family at the age of six and graduated from Oak Harbor High School in 1953. She was a cheerleader in high school.

Daisy was a loving and dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. She was a wonderful cook who enjoyed baking, sewing and many other projects. Most important to her was her family. She loved Christmas time and holding large family gatherings. She cherished time with her children and grandchildren.

She was very involved in the Island County 4-H program for several years as a 4-H club leader, named in 1985-86 as “Island County 4-H Leader of the Year”. She also served as Island County Fair Dog 4-H Superintendent. Daisy had a great love of all animals, especially dogs. She also taught dog obedience lessons at her home.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church although she had been unable to attend the last several years.

Daisy is survived by her husband of 62 years, Alexander Gabor, and her four children; Linda Miller and husband Don of Newberg, OR, Larry Gabor of Olympia, Bill Gabor of Oak Harbor, and Jim Gabor of Burlington. She is also survived by her brother, Merle Knotts and wife Jan of Marietta, GA and nephew Michael Knotts and wife Erin of Roswell, GA.

Also surviving are her eight grandchildren; Michaela Jaquith, Maria Miller, Donny Miller, Rachel Ellyson, Lindsey Ringler, Colby Gabor, Brandon Gabor, and Ashley Gabor, as well as seven great-grandchildren; Kalista Jaquith, Malachi Jaquith, Kaelyn Jaquith, Cole Miller, Rhett Ellyson, Trent Ellyson and Austynn Ringler.

She was preceded in death by her father, Eugene Knotts, and her mother, Roberta Knotts/Lowery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Whidbey Animals’ Improvement Foundation (WAIF).

A graveside funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, August 28, 2017 at Maple Leaf Cemetery in Oak Harbor followed by a reception at the adjacent Wallin Funeral Home.
