Obituary for Betty Marie Walter

Betty Marie Walter
Betty Marie Walter, 90, passed away February 5, 2013 perfectly, peacefully with her beloved daughter Karen and caregiver Lisa Rancore by her side. With open arms she joins her husband, Ray, daughter, Wendy, and son, Johnny along with many family members and friends. She was born on Sept. 10, 1922 to George and Tilly Coble in Blanchard, WA.

A long-time resident of Oak Harbor, she grew up in Blanchard and graduated from Edison High School. After graduation, she worked as an X-Ray technician in Burlington. Betty met and married her husband of 67 years, Ray Walter, and the two settled down in Oak Harbor.

Betty was an active member in the Oak Harbor community working several years in the family business, Piston Service, as a bookkeeper. While balancing work and raising a family, she was also involved at Whidbey Golf and Country Club, where she was an avid golfer and her husband was a founding member. However, throughout her entire life, her first priority was always caring for her family.

In addition to her family, Betty’s caring and compassionate qualities carried over to her many friends and family around the Northwest and country. She loved her girlfriend lunches and Oak Harbor pinochle group. Ray and Betty were snow birds for many years, traveling to Arizona in the winter and spending summers camping, enjoying outdoor activities and hosting gatherings on Whidbey Island. Summer time also included one of her favorite past times…watching the Seattle Mariners!
A long-time active member of the First United Methodist Church, Betty is remembered for her strength, kindness and gentle character. She always found the best in everyone and never was one to complain.

Betty is survived by her daughter Karen (Kit) Jennings of Los Angeles, CA; Marge Walter of Woodland, CA; grandchildren RC Jennings and Jack Jennings of Los Angeles; Rebecca (Aaron) McCreery of Seattle, Stacy (Jason) Quatsoe of Big Lake, WA, John (Niki) Leddy of Fort Mill, SC and Janay (PJ) Haggerty of Roseville, CA; great-grandchildren Casey and Sydney Quatsoe and Emma Leddy. She will be missed by many extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Ray and two children Johnny and Wendy Walter-Dunning.

A special thanks to caregivers Lisa Rancore, Beverly Douglas, and all the friends and neighbors for all their love and support.
Graveside funeral services for Betty will be held Saturday, Feb. 9 at 2:00 pm at the Maple Leaf Cemetery with Pastor Dave Johnson officiating. Family and friends are invited to a reception at Wallin Funeral Home immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests remembrances be made to Lion’s Club of Oak Harbor for all of their help or to a local charity in Betty’s name. Arrangements were entrusted to Wallin Funeral Home, where friends and family may go online at www.wallinfuneralhome.com to sign a guest resister and leave remembrances for the family.
