“Mozier, YOU SLIME!” Coach bellowed at me, “Get yourself over here!”

I immediately ran up to him. When it came to Coach, one did not dare hesitate.

Technically, he was “just” my 10th grade Physical Education teacher, and a tough one at that! But in reality, he was every student’s coach.

Coach taught us students the value of hard work and honesty. If anyone tried to cut a corner, he would see right through you. The man had lived, and we had not, so he was getting us ready for it.

Coach checked my neck for sweat. “You aren’t sweating, Mozier! Get down and give me twenty push-ups!”

I complied. He checked again. Still no sweat. Another twenty. Now I was dripping! He then gave his approval, and off I went.

Coach "Duck" Daugherty passed into eternity this past week, but his life lessons will continue to live in me.
